Today I’m talking about some ‘Christian Questions’ (see the full playlist here) like, “where is God in the Silence?” and “why can’t I hear Him when I’m listening?” I hope you’ll join me for this video as I tell the story of how God moved in me through silence on my trip to Covecrest. I actually filmed this video a few weeks ago but it got lost in all my video filming, but I think it’s worth the watch.
During our week at Covecrest (read my post about the week here), we experienced some designated ‘silent time’ to sit by ourselves, in total silence, and just be still with the Lord. This was a huge challenge! How often in our life do we truly sit still, in total silence, free of distraction, and just open our hearts and ears to God?
Many of the teens struggled with finding true peace in the stillness. I talk about how this is an issue for so many people throughout the video. We live in a busy-busy world and there’s always some other distraction to steal our focus.
When we turn it all off, the silence can be scary.
The young women in my small group shared their struggles in facing insecurities that crept up in the quiet time. Many also revealed that they wondered where God was in the quiet and if He was even listening at all.
As with my other ‘Christian Question’ videos, I hope this helps you reflect on these questions in your own life! Do you struggle with silent time? What do you do when you can’t ‘hear’ God in prayer? I’d love to hear from you in a comment!

Kristen,
I love reading your blogs and so many college and high school girls can learn a lot from you. Prayer time is vitally important but The very best way to know what God wants to tell is is through His word, the Bible. Everything He wants us to know is there. Keep up the awesome work!

This is so true. Finding time to be alone with a God can be so hard sometimes, especially being young. But honesy it is SOOOO beneficial to being honest and growing in your faith.

Kristen, thank you so much for approaching this topic. I have been struggling with not feeling like God is there lately, but this is such a reminder that he is always there. You are so encouraging!
